The Reported Uf Sail (Received July 31, 10.39 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 31. Referring to yesterday's cable in reference to tbe Equitable Life Assurance Society, tbe Equitable local office states that under tbe New York law no order can be granted lor the appointment of tbe receiver except upon tbe application ol the Attorney-General, ; on Ms ova motion, or after his approval of a repwt in writing by the Superintendent of Insurance. In the absence of any mention of tbe Attorney-General, it was thought improbable that the suit can succeed.
