Illegal Operation Case.
ORPEN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL? (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 19. In the first charge against Dr. Orpen, of committing an illegal operation, accused, on toeing formally charged, said he had nothing to say, and reserved his defence, pleading "not guilty." He was committed to the Supreme 'Court for trial. The second charge against Dr. Orpen, of committing an illegal operation on April 1, was then proceeded Mr Mays, for the prosecution, called Adda Kattcms, a young married woman, who said she was married on March 5 last. She told accused she Was in trouble and wanted to know if he could help her to to &1 rid <>i it. Dr. Otpen asked her :>ow much money she had, and was told vli.it she had £5. Dr. Orpen remarked, "That's very little," and took the money. The witness gave particulars of what followed. Accused was committed for trial, bail being allowed, himself in £SOO and two sureties of £250 each.
