HEAVY RAIN IN AUCKLAND.
QUEEN STREET UNDER WATER. (I'er PVess Association.) AUCKLAND, July 12. One. of the heaviest downpours thai has been experienced in Auckland for some time fell this morning. The reclaimed land near the water front became Hooded, and the lower part of Queen Street resembled a small river. The water was quite a foot deep in places, and while the rain lasted it rushed down the street with great force, spreading over the footpaths, and flooding a large number of the cellars. The whole of Queen Street wharf was also flooded, and the water poured over the sides Liberty men going off to H'.M.s! Challenger had to wade through the water with their boots slung over their shoulders^ The. damage was comparatively small, as the rain did not last long.
