o ANNUAL MKKTINC. WKLLINUTOS, July :). The Eieculive and Legislation Committee of the Municipal Assticia'.ion met to-day. On the suggestion of North Last Valley, Thames and Petone. a motion was brought up suggesting "that plumping voting papers be declared informal," but it was decided not to forward it to the Conference. A motion to discontinue the use of a cross in marking ballot papers met , With the same fate. A motion was passed approving of the principle that all canvassing at municipal elections should be made ) illegal, but none of the members scared to aft on the committee lode- ; fine the scope of the word "canvassins."
"< A motion that Mayoral elections ' should take place biennially was lost. 1 It was resolved thai boroughs may r elect to undertake the construction of | new streets over subdivided areas at [. the cost of the persons subdividing (• such areas, the estimated cost of such work to be paid into the horlotrgh funds. It was decided that the Municipal Corporations Act should he so amended as to allow municipalities to lake over roads of a minimum width of 40ft, provided that the local muniri- '" pality is satisfied that a greater Width would be impracticable.
