MR H. MYNOTT FAREWELLISU. THat Taranaki is the strong-hoM of I'oolball was evidenced on Monday 'light by the large gathering which assembled. at tho Criterion Ifotel in order to do honour to Mr H. Mynott. who has been chosen as ono of the New Zealand representative loot/ball team to' touii Ori-at tßuitaln. It is evidence of the good Ceding prevailing amongst New I'lymouth footballers that the gathering included members of both tho Star ami Tukapa Clubs, besides othi'Vs interested tin the game. Ml Oliver Samuel (il'rcsktontf of the, Tukapa Club) presided over the nsiernljly, which numbered over, some 70 persons, and Mr E. Dockrill (President. of the Star Club) occupied the victi-chaiir. Mine Host Ban O'Brien, himself one of the slraightest sports in, ti'-jo colony, provided the good things appertaining to a smoke concert, and no further word of praise is needed than that they were up to his usual standard. The Britisher's loyitl toast iv.as honoured pror to ihe Chairman proposing that of "The Guest of the evening, Mr H'. Mynott," expressing in warm terms the good washes of the company. He was sure Mr Mynott would worthily uphold the credit of the town. On behalf of the subscribes lie had much pleasure in handing Mr Mynott a Juvntisomc travelling bag and rug. My Mynott, in thanking the donors, suid he thought; tho teann gJiouW worthy of the high enconiwns sio.w.erci} upon members. He would do his bes'-to merit the reposed in him. Mr All. Gray, in a '«w words expressing the good feeling existing tween the two local clubs, gave the toast "The Star Football Club," Mr Dockrill replying. The responder paid a tribute to the influence of Messrs Allen and Humphries in improving Rugby in tho province. Having tw.o clubs in tho town gave a stimulus to the game. Mr Dockrill, proposing the- toast of "The Tukapa Club," coupled .with it the name of Mr Dan O'Brien, emphasising the indebtedness of sport to that gentleman. In his reply Mr O'Brien said any Ihiitg ho had done for football was simply to bring out/ the merits of the bust team. Other toasts were "The Ladies," proposed by Mr 'A. R. HtainiJiish, ;ind responded to by Mr Eric Bayly ; "The Committee." proposed by the Chairman and responded to by Mr ,T. C. Morey, sen. ; "British Football Teams," proposed by Mr 11. Mynott and replied to l>y Mr Wilson ; "The Chapman,"' proposed by' Mr Dockrill ; "Our Host and Hostess," liy Mr it. G. I'svrdy ;• "The l'ress," Mr P. B. Ross. During the evening a splendid "programme oI dongs and rccitat mils waft rendered by the following gentlemen :—Messrs Alec Hill, Cooper, T. B. Robs (songs), •'as. Oliver and Detective Benjamin (recitations).. The southern members of the New Zealand' Football team who are to make the rip to Australia will arrive in Welfington on Wednesday morning, when they will catch the train en route to Auckland. Tho Tarv. anaki contingent will join the team here. The iirsp match' will be played at Auckland oa Saturday, after that the team will leave fqr Sydney by the .Viotouia.
