Political Labour League.
A meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Political "Labour League was held on Friday evening. Mr J Christopher (President) took the chair, and there was a fairly good attendance. ,V
Thp committee appointed to approach the various candidates for the J*ew Plymouth seat to ascertain their views on the Labour platform, with a view to the branch deciding on a definite stand for the next election, reported progress. Mr 11. Okey replied seriatim to a. number of questions put to him by the League. The blanch declined as 'a body to support his candidature. The secretary was instructed to further communicate with the other camlt, dates, as their replies had not yot come to hahd.
Tho printed report of the first annual flojifprcnee 0 f the League held in Wellington in April last was recuiivcd and discussed. Tho amended platform wis considered very satisfactory.
Some discussion took place regarding Sir Joseph Ward's promise to introduce a Bill this session authorising the railway deviation at New Plymouth.- Members- considered it the duty of all the public, bodies to agitate until the work ivus an accomplished fact. Jt was linully decided to ask Mr E. M. Smith, M.H.K., to do his 1 utmost to hawe the work vigorously started, at least, before the elections.
The secretary (Mr H. Sadler) was instructed to wait on the local Inspector of Weights' and Measures, to ask whether ho had received any instructioing from headquarters regarding tho strict •enforcement of the Act in this district.
