A SAD CASE.
(Per Frew Association.) GISBORNE, Juno 20 • 'At tfe inquest held, at Te Karaka to-day concerning the death of the girl' Annie Barringtxm, it was shown that die stayed with her aunt, and t being' washing day, sho said she would go to the well 'for water. Her aunt asked her not to go, hut ,• she did so, and was found shortly after in l a stone well about four feet deep, with two feet of water in It. She was subject to fits, and Was apparently dead when found. The / aunt made unsuccessful efforts to get the body out, and then called a nas tive woman who was at the house. Together they succeeded. A chemist was promptly called in (there being no doctor, nearer than Gisb'ornfcU but the girl Was found to' fee beyoriU aid*, Hie father, a road contractor, is in Gisborno hospital, suf- • foiing from a serious injury to his arm, and tSe girl's motKcr is dead'. A verdict was returned that dearth " was caused by drowning.
