Foreshore Stone.
The Taranaki County Council, contitfuing in its effort to secure the right to rpiliovc stone from the foreshore for road purposes, wrote to the Harblour llourd on Friday, expressing the opinion that the removal of. stone from the locality where the 'Jouncil desired to obtain the supply Cjuld not possibly injure the railway line. Tho Hoard was asked by the Council to appoint a representative lo inspect and report on the matter in conjunction with an engineer appointed by the Railway Department und a rcprasentaiivo of the Council. , The Chairman (Mr J. 11. Connett) thought the Board should not take any action antagonistic to the Railway Department, because in that event there was a possibility of the Department to protect 'themselves, I taking over the foreshore by proclaiUa(ttom. There vnasl also the fact that the Hoard contemplated certain reclamation work, and would require "II the material available. Mr Price, in supporting the Chairman, considered the Hoard should strictly adhere to their by-laws, under which they had power to prevent the removal of stone, The membersi generally agreed with' this view, and decided uot to reopen tho question.
