Applications from Waikanae and Greytown for the registration of new clubs were declinedjby the Wellington Hoeing Club on the ground that there were already enough dubs in those districts.

Horses, owned! by Mr James McGil] have won the Brisbane Cup on seven occasions. Fltngrnfton, thial year's winner, was successful in last year's race, his latest essay being a meritorious perfornuinccv Jlc haftl 10 stone in the saddle aguinst a fairly strong field. The New Zealand Cup candidates comprise seventeen three-year-olds, fourteen four-yeur-oWs, fifteen five-year-olds, and twenty slx-ycur-olds and upwards. Auckland has only four representatives in the N.Z. Cup, viz., Scotty, Romeo, Gladstone,, and Apologue—a poor entry Considering the number of horses trained m that district. Waitarcro has been, wry unlucky in his five essays at the jumping, gmne. j though ho had a different rider at each start. Collins and Iliggins rode him at Wanganui, at Auckland ho by C. Cochrane, McGregor and F. Lind. His record for livi" starts is three fal}s, one fourth, and one third.
TARAXAKJ JOCKEY CLUB,
A mooting- of the newly-elected' comma Ueo of the TaranaVi Jockey Club was held on I>'rid a y evening. In the absence of the Chairman ([Mr j Jos. Paul) Colonel Ellis was voted to the chair, and there were also present Messrs Fitaherbcrt, Newton King, Gibbons, Q, Gray, A. Goldwater, J. H. Heiuplon, A. It. Standish, V.~ Watson, and W. C. Weston. A letter was received from H. Adhnn, of, Waihi, Waitura, asking for the removal of the disqualification imposed, upon himself and horsra for taking part in an unregistered meeting at Hell Block last December.
The secretary's action in replying that the disqualification could not be removed until twelve months had expired from the date of the unregistered meeting was confirmed. At the request of the Opuriake Racing Club, it was agreed to place on the fotTeit JisV the names of several nominators and horses for non-payment of fees. *

At a faceting of my Board it was decided to communicate with your Club on. the subject, and ask if you would kindlv furnish any reason why tho prolamines of these clubs (someof which have applied to have the irotting events approved) should noti bo passed."
Tho secretary read tho letter which he had sent in reply explaining ■ Uie rules on the subject. • Section, 7 filiated : "No jockey club shall approve the programme for a club un-
less such club aiiall have fxxa granted and shall then be holding a ccrtfc (icate of registration, under these rules." Rule 5, section 8, bearing on tho same subject, was also quoted in the letter, together with the committee's resolution reading :—■ "Where any persons or horses have been disqualified for upwards of • a year for taking part in unregistered meetings, the committee will consider any application for the removal of such disqualification if accompanied by full particulars and dates and by the recommendation of the committee of tho racing club nearest to where the meeting took place." "You will notice," the letter con- I eluded, "that we have no power to pass such a programme." ■ The secretary's reply was confirmed and in ■discustion it was pointed out that the Conference alone ideals' with applications of clubs for registration, and these had to come before the Conference in July. The application of tho Taranaki Agricultural Society for registration in order to permit of pony events, etc., being run If desired, was n* commended to the Conference for approval. The Chairman (Mr Paul) and Messrs Weston and Hempton were appointed to constitute the course com. mittec ; Messrs Gibbons, Watson, and the Chairman to form a sub-commit-tee to investigate applications- for trainers' and Jockeys' licenses; nnd Colonel Ellis and Messrs Fltzherbert and Watson a sub-committee in 'respect to country clubs' programmes. It .was resolved to adhere to the arrangement of holding tho meetings of the committee on the last Friday 'in 'each month.
