Preferential Tariff Condemned.
The measure passed last session for tho purposes of a preferential tariff, was warmly condemned in tho annual report of the President of the Taranaki Chanibor of bommeree, who remarked Business ipen have had a year's experience of this atupid measure. The inlention of the Legislature was to show. British inanufactur•'rs that the colony desires (to accord them a preference. The Act, however, was framed by men of no 'businessi experience and has resulted in a dead loss to the British manufacturer und much trouble and annoyance as well, as it entailed a complete charigo of their invoicing and shipping documents, while at this end tho only result is endless,' worry to importers. It is tho duty of every Chamber of Commerce in the colony to bring pressure on the Government to) have this absurd measure amended."
