I dare say Mr Collis is pretty well right as to my suggestion of a flag, and of . gun-firings I merely thought the flag might be a bit mora conspicuous, pr call the attention of any person not knowing the locality, to the position of the House, froiri some portion of tho mountain, where the building might not be so discernible, this only in bright weather, unless at night a lantern could lie hauled up for the benefit of a lost" one. The echoes of the gun might probably only confuse unless there was a possibility of the direction of the first report being distinguishable before the occurrence of the echo, the disr charge of such gun at night, to be considered' only as perhaps button than doing nothing, if a climber was missing!. Something, I think, was carried out with regard to fixing i guide posts, and a connecting rope ' would certainly complete things, air though involving a little outlay and trouble. Strict instructions for tho I prevention of attempts at ascents in bad weather might also be desirable. C. W. w.
