"HANDS UP!"
PAPAKU'RA RESIDENT STl'df P'lv: (l'ep Press Association-) AUCKLAND, June 2. A stickiug-up case took place on Wednesday night on the Great South Road Mi' W. G. Rae, returning from Papakura on horseback, over* took a man, and as tho two proceeded along side by Hide, he asked the man if he were going far, and received thp unexpected reply, "No ! and neither are you uptil I get a few shillings from you.' : ' The stranger then laid hold of the horse's bridle. Mr Rae, having a stout umbrella, brought It down with his full force on the man's head, and knocked him flown. This caused the horse to shy, unseating Air Rae, who landed on his feet. The latter thef) heard other footsteps, and thinking that his assailant had an accomplice, jumped upon his horse, and went lull speed for home. Rae had ca|lef} at bpth hotels at Papakura during the evening, trying to get change for a ten pound note. Hp thinks that this fapl may havo been noted by someone. As the night was dai'k. Ran is unable to give details that would lead to Ul identification of his assailant.
