Borough Works Committee.
The Works Committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council met on Thursday evening, when there were present : The Mayor (Mr K. Cock), and Crs. Brooking, Browne, Burgess, Collis, Cliff, Ewing, and Tisch, The following recommendations will be made to the Council on Monday evening :
That Cr. Collis be added to the Reserves Committee.
That the Mayor be authorised to certify that the requisition rcquestr ins the Labeur Department to fix r.crtain hours (or closing of chemists' shops represents a majority of the chemists in trade in New i'lymoulh. That Mr E. J. Cnrthew be informed that when he erects the building he mentions in Powderham Street the Council will consider the question of continuing the concrete channelling as far as his section.
That Mr John Bennett be inlormea that tho Council will let him have the wooden culvert removed from the channel in front of his properly in Powderham Street, on payment of sa, cost of the pipes substituted, for the culvert.
, That the request of the Eliot Road Board for repairs at Wallace Place be referred to tho borough engineer to report upon. That Mr Nixon's request for a water main to be laid in Young Street West be referred to the borough engineer to report upon.
That the engineer bo instructed to report aa to the cost of completing the metalling of Young Street West. That the engineer be instructed to report as to the cheapest method of constructing a temporary outlet for the sewer from the west end of the town.
That the letter from the Mangorci Dairy Company in reference to tin supply of water to their factory bo referred to the engineer to report on. That the engineer be instructed to connect the Central Fire Brigade Station with the public sewers.
That the Garrison Band be informed that the Council cannot see its way to accede to their request for a site for a band room.
That the letter from tb» Justice Department regarding the repeal oi local Acts be referred to the borough solicitors to report upon.
That consideration of Mr L. F. Rullot'a request re removal of earth at Standish's Hill be deferred until the committee view the placo in question. That the committee view the building erected in Egmont Street by Mr Todd Without having lirst obtained a building permit. That the engineer be authorised to construct the drain in Gill Street from Currie Street to Cover Street at the levels previously fixed by Mr Mestaycr. That tho engineer be authorised to construct a drain along the two sides of the reservoir as mentioned- in his roport. That consideration of the request that tho water mains be extended along Barrett Street be deferred till the connmittee view the locality. That the engineer be instructed to lay a sewer along Lemon Street from Liardet Street to the Central School...
That the engineer be authorised tc I metal the following streets : Powder|ham Street from Dawson to Robe .Streets (estimated, ti( cost £80),. | Eliot Street Hill, ns mentioned in | his report (estimated to cost £80). That tenders be called for the erection of the power house. [ That Mr Colesby be informed that the Council cannot see its way to hive its metal waggons to him," but is prepared to sell them at a price to bo arranged.
That Messrs Malone, McVeagh and Anderson bo informed that the Council will require Mr Hayes to supply such extra metal as may be ordered under the terms of the present contract.
