tlreat interest was taken in tl'a instrumental, vocal, and elocutional-.' entertainment given by the sclioi.l children. The large school room was packed to overflowing, while Sir E. M. The children acouitvd themselves most creditably, and the appreciative applause which erected tfio various items must have been very gratifying to their instructors, Mr Johnson, headmaster, and Miss McKonzic, schoolmistress', assisted by Miss Thomson
Among the evening's attractions were several competitions. Miss K. Griffiths secured the prize for cookery, with Master Hoy Jackson second. The competition was so close that special prizes were awarded to the two next in merit. The guessing prize was won by Miss Tisch, and Mr I. Aroa carried off the

A room was set apart for dancing, which commenced at B.SO. Mr L. Steele (Chairman of the Committee) acted as M.C., and a good number "tripped the light fantastic" until after midnight. The Indies who assisted are so numerous that it is impossible at short notice to mention their names individually, but the enthusiasm displayed by all showed I how heartily their sympathies wore jwith the work which the entertainIment celebrated. The Chairman, members, and secretary of the School l Committee also deserve mention for | their work in promoting the pleasurable gathering. Votes of thanks were accorded nil helpers. Mr E, M.
