New Plymouth Hospital Board.
MONTHLY MEETING. 'llio Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard met on Monday uiurning. There were present : Messrs <•. Tisch (Chairman), 1?. Cock, J. brown, JC. M. Murley, J. Andrews, and I'r. llnrding.
—Subsidy.— The. Treasury advised that subsidy "'o the amount ol' ■L.'M!) gs hart been ]>laeed to the credit of the Hoard's account.
—An Opunake Mutter.— The Clrrk to the Opunake County Council wrote pointing out Hint tile levy made by the Hoard and that made by the. Ilawcra Hoard were in the aggregate in excess of the total valuable value of that county. Particulars of the rateable value oil which the contribution is based wen* asked for as the impression prevail.-1 that some overlapping of boundaries had taken place. I The required information was ordered to be furnished.
—Ambulance.— The lluweru Hoard asked for pai tieulars of the ambulance in connection with the local hospital. It was asked what was the outlay and whether the ambulance was giving sot/s----faction
—Probationers.— Miss Eva Freely's name was placed on the probationers' list. Mise Chester M. Jury intimated that she had visited the hospital many times and had a great desire to be a nurse. She inquired whether there was a vacancy. The secretary was instructed to point out that the applicant could apply to be placed on the list of probationers
—An Undesirablo Inmate.— Mr Arthur E. Farrar, manager of the Old People's Home, reported on a man admitted to the institution from Hawora, and complained that his habits rendered him an unlit patient for the home. Pr. Walker concurred in this view. The Chairman said he was com municating with Hawera to see what could be done with ■ the inmate In question.
—Adjustments.— The confei-once with representatives of the Stratford Hospital Hoard for the adjustment of accounts was fixed for Monday, 29th inst. Mr Webb, ehief auditor, will act as Commissioner to report to the Auditor-
Goneral. . Mr W. Monkhouse wrote on behalf of the Stratford Board for a copy of the statement of accounts forwarded to the Auditor-General in connection with the adjustment.
It was decided that the Board as a whole attend tho conference, and the Chairman and Mr Cock were au thorised to consult a solicitor in preparing the ease.
—Lighting.— On the motion of the Chairman it was decided to instruct Air Messenger, architect, to prepare an estimate of the cost of installing electric light at the hospital and Old l'cgple's Home.
The secretary was also instructed to write to the Gas Company and ascertain whether the company is prepared to make any reduction to the Board in the price of gas, and at what price it will supply incandescent lights and mantles.
—Drugs,— Drs. Walker and Wylio, to whom the tenders for the supply of drugs had been referred, recommended the acceptance of Messrs Teed and Co.'s tender. The recommendation was adopted.
—Charitablo Aid.— Two applications for charitable aid wfcre dealt \v,ith. Mr Gray, of Messrs Wilson and Gray, solicitors, waited on tha Hoard ill reference to the agreemont entered | into with Patrick Foley, aged 76, late of Hell Block, who had paid over the sum of £2BO on condition that he was provided for during his lifetime at the Old People's Home. Foley Was not. now content to liva at the home, and asked that either the monoy be returned to him or that the Board pay for his maintenance outside the home. The Board decided to retain the money and pay for outside maintenance.
—Accounts.— Accounts amounting to £093 14s lid were passed for payment. —Acknowledgment.—
The receipt was acknowledged o( one case of vegetables as a gift from St. Philip's Church, Tariki, for usu at the hospital.
