Opening an Egyptian Tomb.

DISCOVERY OF TREASURES. Mr Theodore M. Davis, the Egyptologist, has made an arcbnelojgical [discovery of the first importance ; in tact it w the most important discovery yet made in Egypt. He has found at tomb which 'has never been lounn a tomb which has never been visited or plundered since the age of the 18th Dynasty, and is stil, filled .with royal treasures of a time whem Egypt was toe mistress of the East and the source of its supply of gold. A correspondent of the Times gives £Oiue very interesting details of the ifiscovery. When the entrance of tho torafb was first opened, it was evident that it had been entered by robbers shortly after its construction ; that, 'having been surprised in their work of plunder, they had fled tastily, leaving some of the objects <they had stolen in the vestibule. When the tomb itself was opened in the presence ol the Duke of Conoaugbt and his suite, a marvellous sight met the eyes of the fortunate discoverer, Mummy cases encrusted with gold, huge alabaster vases of exquisite form, chairs and boxes brilIfawt with paint and gilding, even a pleasure chariot with its six-spoked wheels still covered by their wooden tyres, were lying piled ouo upon the ether in bewildering prolusion. it was some days before the gang of explorers could even ascertain the full extent of the treasures which tbo tomb contained. One very interesting article was a, veil of black muslin, or rather crepe, which was drawn over a gilded mask. This is the first time anything of sthe kind has been fomtd in Egypt. -An even more valuable find was that •of a beautiful chariot.
