The importance of the North of Auckland main trunk railway being pushed on with more vigour than has hitherto been displayed was discussed at a large and representative public meeting of city and country residents, held under the auspices of the North Island Main Trunk Railway League. The Mayor of Auckland presided. The present allocation of railway votes between the North and South Islands was criticised. It was unanimously decided to ask the Government and Parliament that a vote of £IOO,OOO for the extension of the line as far as should be placed on the Estimates next session.
