Insanitary Schools.
UEPOItT OP THE HOHOUGIH INSPECTOR. Reporting to the Borough Council on Monday night, the sanitary inspector (Mr Kendall) stated th u t since his lust report he had made a careful inspection of the South Koad school, where nearly 300 children attended daily. He remarked upon the .nsanitary condition of the conveniences, and stated that he had made representations to the committee on the- subject. "It is a somewhat notable fad/' added the inspector, "that the three (Jay schools whicli receive the bulk iA the borough children have each got some of the most insanitary conveniences which are to be found in New! Plymouth. 'Phis is a conllition of affairs which should certainly not lie allowed to exist. It is simply courting disaster from it public lieult.hr point of view to allow the children to have daily contact with conditions which are, to say the least, the very opposite of healthy. I hope, in the near future, to see each of the three schools^—which receive so large u number of the population of the town—put into a thoroughly sanitary condition, instead of inviting disease."
Cr. Collis, who is chairman of the, New Plymouth Central School Couinittec, warmly supported the inspectors remarks, und moved that a copy of the report bo submitted to the Turanaki Education Hoard. Ho was glad to see tho inspector speaking out. The School Committee of the Central Sqhool had done their level best to get the Board to improve the sanitary arrangements, but without success so f jr. There was no doubt the place was in a very insanitary condition. Mr Kondail had dram attention t 0 it before, and ho (Cr. Solljs) presumed further steps would.be taken if the Hoard aid not t\ikc the necessary action very soon.Cr. Browne seconded the motion, which was agreed to.
