THE DEFECTIVE GUNS.
ADMIRALTY EXPLAINS. (Received April 2*, 11.oil p.m.) LONDON, April 28. The Admiralty have issued the following memorandum :—" One 12inch, mark eightl cracked its muzjzle aboard H.M.S. Majestic ; a .second gun showed sigtis of a crack in the inner A tube. They had iired equivalent to sixty-six and sev-enty-live full charges. The steel inner A tubes were found to be soil. This was the probable cause of 'the weakness. The two guns will he repaired shortly and reVsucd." Regarding the statement by the Daily Graphic, the memorandum, says it is suflicienl to quote that in tho past), the lirst 12-inch, mark | kjlit, gun tired 102 full charges before being re-lined. It add*, " The guns afloat that have tired the greatest number of rounds aboard I H.M.S. Mars, Caesar, and Jupiter tired an equivalent of over sixty full I charges and are still perfectly serviceable.' 1
