Hospital and Charitable Aid.

MONTHLY IK) AM) MEETING. | The monthly meeting of tho Tara-. naki Hospital and Charitable Aid "Board was- held on Monday. Ther6 were present Messrs G. Tisch (chairman), J. Brown, J. Burgess, E, M. Murley, .J. Andrews, Br. Harding, and R. Cook (Mayor.) —Patients.— During tho last month the admissions- to the hospital numbered 37, those discharged 26, and deaths it, leaving 43 under treatment. There were 19 operations performed. Br. I.eathnm. medical superintendent, reported that the month had been one of the busiest so far experienced al the hospital. —Loose.— The solicitor to the School Commissioners, Mr O. Samuel, advised that the tender by the Board for the lease of 2 roods 14 perches, part sections 422 and 428, and sections 2328 and 2332, had been accepted. The documents forwarded were duly executed. —Probationer.— Nurse K. E. Bertram sent in her resignation as' probation nurse at the hospital, and asked to bo relieved of her duties in a month's' time. The Chairman reported Unit Miss Turner, of Inglewood, who was next on the list had been appointed probationer.

—Hospital Nurses' Fares.— The Wunganui Hospital Hoard wrote with reference to the llourd .suiiporting an application which had licen mude to the Minister of Hallways for a concession in fares to hospital nurses while travelling on the railways during their holidays. Tho Minister had so far declined to grant the request. Tho letter pointed out that the duties required of nurses were of n particularly trying nature, rendering cessation from labour, and change of scene, at regular intervals, an absolute necessity in order that they may be physically fit to perform their duties. The nurses were unable to take advantage of excursion fores granted by the Department to the general public, the salaries paid them were small, and the people of the colony, while suffering from all kinds of dangerous ailments, had tho benefit of their services. Therefore a concession in fares should bo granted the nurses so that they may be able to take full advantage of' tho holidays allowed them from time to time. The concession should only be granted in the •case of hospital nurses who could produce a certificate from the governing body or medical officer in charge of the institution they were associated with to the effect tnat they were travelling during their holidays.

Tho Chairman and Mr Cock argued that as nurses could not tuke noli idays while the excursions wort on they should be granted tickets at a reduced rate when they did get their vacations. On the other hand members pointed out that the railways wero a commercial concern, and they (lid not believe, in the principle of jsking for potty concessions of this nature. If it was to lie concooded to one section of the community there was no knowing where it would end. A motion by the Chairman to su|* port the Wangunui Hoard in their request was defeated, and no action was taken. I —Stratford Adjustments.—

The Auditor-General acknowledged the memorandum from the Hoard in respect to the adjustment of accounts between the local and Stratford Hoards, and statad that so soon as Certain information asked for was supplied, tlio auditor would appoint a and place for meeting the representatives of the Boards. The Hoard decided to recommend that the meceing be hold at its office, on a date to be arranged. The Stratford County Council forwarded cheque- for £123 3s Gd, representing the amount of the Council's contribution for the first quarter of 1905.

The Chuirman reported that Messrs Mackay and Monkhousu, representing the Stratford Hospital Board, had waited upon him and Mr Cock. It was jointly agreed lhat the Stratford Board should pay 12s per week for each of the seven inmates in tho Home who originally came from the Stratford Hospital District, this arrangement to stand until the adjust* ment of accounts between the two Hoards cou!d bo permanently fixed. Tho dolegatcs also agreed that the Stratford Hoard pay the cost of maintenance of a widow and three children, and also of n boy. who had come from tho Stratford district.
