Western Park Improvements.
PKOI'OSED CONCERT IN AID, There is a tendency to make the most of our recreation ground facilities, and the acquisition and improvement of the reserve known as the Western Park will , meet with warm commendation. With a view to augmenting tJio funds the Board has asked the Mayor, to whom the Wanganui Garrison Hand jna/de an offer to give a performance for any deserving object, to obtain the services of tho band. If this generous concession is obtained we understand that a conceit will be arranged, to take place in th« Theatro Royal on Easter Monday night. This would form a very pleasant wind-up to tho day's festivities and the appearance, of th<J "crack" band would no doubt bo much appreciated by the public. It, is to be hoped tho movement will be brought to a successful issue, as the object must commend itself to the townspeople generally.
The site of the present Tukapa football ground and the West . End cricket ground are also under tho Board's control, but a leuae of tho •same docs not, expire until October* next. The Board will, as soon as possitolo after that date, and' so far as funds are available, effect iinp.rovements to these grounds also, and intend to make the latter a first-class cricket reserve. The members of the Uoand are Crs. G. W. Browne, C. Ahier, J. S. S. Medley and M, Fraser, representing tho Borough Council, and L. A Alexander, A. H. StandisM. and C. George representing the citizens. Phe last named is acting as hon. secretary and treasurer.
