LOSS OF SCOW.
(Per Press Association.) DUKEWN, April 14. An official inquiry was held to-day as t.j the disappearance of .ho cnw Hoanga, which left IHincdin in KeptcnrtxT last for Herekino. The vessel was of 105 tons net register, built in 1904. Her registered owner is Mr J. Harrison, of Aratapu. She brought toDunodta 114,000 feet ol timber, and took away about 20 tons of produce. Her master was Edwin McDonald, who hold a master's certificate. She was known to have on board R. Hodder (mate}, J. McNeill, and J. McAlisler (able seamen), and a cook, whoso name Is unknown. Tho scow is supposed to have -been seen on October 17 by the Tarawera, between Hear Island and Kidnappers', the weather then being very fine, but the samo evening a strong •westerly gale, with hard squalls set in. Evidence wa« given by Mr Chamberlain (Collector of Customs), Cuptuiu (loldon (de-puty-harbourmaster), who thought the vessel generally well found. Captain Fleming (Marine Superintendent), and Captain Lang. The col. lector of Customs reluctantly questioned tho last witness ok to whether the captain was temperate, and re. ceived tho reply that he might have- slight list now and then. Witness thought Captain McDonuld was half seas over when he .'eft the wharf. The mute was a good seaman, and a trustworthy man. The Magistrate said the Court could only come to the conclusion that the scow had been lost, but where, when, or how, there was no evidence to show.
