PERSONAL NOTES.
Mr R. A. Gray, Government Audit Inspector, is in Stratlord at present. Nurse Brown, the matron of the hospital, has returned from her brief holiday trip and resumed duty. Among the passengers to Sydney by the Victoria on Monday were Colonel Lcc and Captain Davles. Mr Bell, late chief officer on the Takapuna, has been appointed to the command of the s.s. Rosamond, and took charge yesterday. Mr T. A. Nicholl, assistant-master at the Woodville School, has been appointed to the position of second master at Blenheim. The ,Post states that Mr J. C. Fulton, head storekeeper to the Public Works Department, is on a visit to Stratford, and that ho will probably remain till the ond of this week". Mr Lucas Toothe, an English sportsman, secured live fine heads, including a "royal," during his deerstalking visit to the Wairarapa last week. Mr Payne, at present assistant master at the Hawera District High School, has been appointed headmaster of the Wnnganui Girls' School. Captain ltnincy, master of the Hud-dart-Parkcr steamer Wimmern, has been appointed to succeed Captain East as assistant marine superintendent for the Tyser Company in New Zealand. At tho Hawera Opera House on Monday the Revs. Porter and Patr chett were farewclled 'by a large number of Methodists and friends. Each of the departing ministers was presented with a chejque. Mr L. J. liagnall, one of the members of the Auckland City' Council, intends to contest the Auckland central seat at the general election, in the Opposition interests, Mr Bugnnl! was a resident ot the Thames fo>many years, and is now a member of several local bodies in Auckland.
Five hundred guests assembled for Miss A<da Cross-ley's marriage to ■Dr. Meuko, of Adelaide, at .Mnrylebone Church, London, on Wednesincluding the AgentsrGeiieral. Marie CoreHi and many musical celebrities. Many cablegrams of congratulation were received from Australians.
It is understood that Mr It. Cock, in response to the wish of a large section of the ratepayers, is agreeable to stand for re-election as Mayor, on condition that Mr Brooking is a member of the new Council. Mr Cock has also put the alternative forward that ho is willing to stand aside in favour uf Mr Brooking, and serve under him us a member of tho Council.
At tho quarterly meeting of the Wesleyan circuit officials held at the Whiteley Hall on Tuesday. Mr Carter (senior circuit steward), on behalf of the meeting, tendered to the Rev. J.«N, Buttle, hearty congratulations on his election to the office of President of the Conference. In doing so, he stated it was esteemed a most honourable position, and he wished Mr Buttle a very prosperous and happy year of office. Congratulations were also extended to the Rev. Mr Williams on having been received by the recent conference as a probationer for the ministry. Both gentlemen suitably acknowledged the kindly sentiments expressed.
