PHOPOSED SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.
At a meeting of the Kit/.roy School Committee on Tuesday evening a resolution was passed expressing the committee's conviction that the time had arrived when it was desirable in the interest of education for School Committees to combine with a view lo taking united action relative to the administration of educational matters. It was considered that thu position at present occupied by committees was very unsutisfuctory, for although they are directly in touch with teachers, parents, and children, ihey are practically powerless to meet the over increasing ne-eds of their schools, and thnl the uttitudo of some Education Hoards towards committees is at times not condtic ive to obtaining the best results. There was also a concensus of opinion that the administration of educational affairs needs several important .changes, especially in the direction of giving committees larger powers, and it was felt that whereas isolated committees could, by themselves, do little good towards effecting the desired improvements, yet by combining together they would have a fair chance of attaining the end in view. It was therefore decided to send a circular to the various committees in this district, inviting them to join a School Committees' Association for Taranaki, and to urge other districts in the colony to take similar action, so that all those interested in educational mutters may bring pressure to bear on the authorities to remedy the existing defects in 'the system.
