Exhibition Committee.
A general meetingjof,the Exhibition Committee was held on Wednesday evening. The president (Mr R. Cock) occupied the chair, and therp were also present : Messrs Alexander, Dockrili, Carter, Greet;, J, Skinner, E. M. Smith, M.H.R., W. Skinner, Dr. Whitton, and the secretary (Mill. A. Lennon).
The balance-sheet, practically identical with tho figures previously published, and the auditors' report wt-ru laid on the table.
A communication was received from Mr O. Samuel, with regard to his inspection of the accounts.
Before the letter was rend tho question was raisod by the secretary us to whether it should be considered in committee.
One or twp members thought the letter should be published in full, but eventually both agreed that as the writer made no statements other than reflecting strongly on tho bad management, it would be inadvisable to re-open up these matters. The president, though quite agreeable to the publication of the letter for his part, thought it might only creaU further ill-feeling. It was finally unanimously decided on the motion of Mr Smith to deal with tho letter in committee. The secretary furnished the press with the following report of tho proceedings .—A letter was read from Mr Samuel, indicating that while in his opinion there is shown a great deal of mismanagement in the running of the affairs of the exhibition, yet he finds no valid reason for refusing payment of his guarantee, and forwards a cheque lor the amount."' The auditor reported that lie had certified np to the accuracy of the accounts, that as far as possible all payments had been vouched, and that the balance sheet accurately represented the position of the committee as disclosed by the books, documents, and informal ion disclosed to him.
After the committee stage, the bal-ance-sheet was formally adopted, on the. motion of the chairman. It was decided to send a circular letter to the guarantors, stating the accounts would be open for their inspection for a period of seven days, and asking them to expedite the winding up of affairs.
A sub-(;omniH,tee, consisting of i.l)t president (Mr Cock), the chairman (Mr Goodacre), Mr Carter, and the secretary, was set up to bring matters to a close as soon as possible, with instructions to tall a general meeting of the whole committee, should any importuut question need attention.
It was agreed to request the jeweller who had the work In hand to prepare the medals, about forty in number, for issue to exhibitors as quickly a."* possible. A resolution was passed placing an record the committee's appreciation of and gratitude for the services of, the ladies who, had assisted at tho exhibition generally,
