A. Muisey, on behalf of Mr Collett, wrote agreeing lo the terms of the 'Council's lotter with regard to he exchange of land' with Sir Col- ! ett. Mr R. Price, chairman of tho company, waited on the comjmittee, and explained that the sale 1 of the bye-products was a source of | roiit, but before truding a con* ' jiany had to gel the sanction of the " municipal body, as provided by Ihe " law. The meat was being slaughter- • ed, and passed by the Government • nspector, ut their works, under a i, lent export license. The question was referred to the bat-toir committee for report at 5 londay's meeting. 5 —Swimming Club.— In answer to the council's letter, J the Secretary of the New Plymouth J Swimming Club notilied that a strict s inquiry had been held into the conduct of one or two competitors In a recant water polo match ut the baths, and the offending players cautioned. The com- - mittee, whilst regretting that the ini ident occurred considered that the j report had been exaggerated. —An Unfounded Complaint.— The sanitary contractors, Messrs .. It was agreed to meet tho board's I wishes and grant 1400 ft of ironbnrk • timber as the council's full share of • the work, tho bridge to bo erected by the Itoad Hoard under tho super- - vision of the borough engineer. —Charitable Aid.— The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board notilied -that the council's • contribution at the rate of lOd in he £IOO (on a total valuation of. £869,029) would bo £B7O 8s 7d for the year ending March 81, li>(N3, This was payable in twelve monthly instalments of £BO 17» sd. Tho amount due as the council's quota towards the erection of a new morgue, £125, was passed for p<iy- , merit. —Drainage.— Permission was given to Mr F. C.' Griffith, acting for Mrs Crockett, (o connect two cottages in Devon Street East, on allotment 1433, willi the main sewer. —Drivers' Licenses.— The New Zealand Carrying Company wrote pointing out that it frequently happened at short notice they had to employ casual drivers. '• Hitherto the inspector had claimed a separate license for each casual driver, but as these men were employed for a few days only, the compuny j suggested that an extra driver's 11- ( cense should be issued to cover such cases. | As this was contrary to the bye- ) laws tho suggestion was not enter- • tained. I —Dog Licenses.— ' The collector of the dog tax. (Mr i ' William l'ycroft) was authorised to 1 [ lay informations and complaints for breaches under the Dog Registration I 1 Act; to destroy ilogs without collars, or, at his own discretion, in- ' stead of destroying them to sell tlm same as provided in the Act. —A Drainage Dispute.— Mr William Webber wrote again drawing attention to the state of the, borough drain running through his private properly in (lover, Street, and ' informing the council that his horse j had fallen into the drain on tho lith i inst., and received injury to its leg. | it was decided to reply declining to ( i recognise any liability in the matter. It was contended that Mr Webber • had been compensated against any loss by the council having filled up j the section lower down on his property, as agreed at the time, and , that the work of covering the drain should bo done by the owner. t Waterworks.— The engineer reported :—Reservoir— j With the exception of a little trim- I] ming up, tho reservoir has been | completed and Is now ready for serv- h ice. Filters.—The contractor is busy , caulking up the leaky joints and putting the overflow pipes in position.They will be completed 10-morrow. , Intuko works.—The tunnel has been 1 , completed, and water can be passed through at any time now.
