Air I'ctcrkin, locomotive engineer on the Wellington-Napier-Now Plymouth section of the Government railways, has retired on superannuation after 21 years' service. The Prince of Wales underwent n slight operation on Monday. The nature of the operation is unknown. It is stated that there is no cause or uneasiness. A cablegram receivt'l last night says hia condition is | ntirely satisfactory.
