Whiteley Memorial Church.
HARVEST THANKSGIVING SERVICES. Specially successful were the hardest thlanksguying services at the Whiteley Memorial Church on Sunday. Members of the congregatayn land friends were generous in their donations, and a very, fine exhibit ■of choice fruits, cereals, and vegetables was arranged in front of the pulpit. The decorations were elaborate and tasteful, and a new feature this year was the pretty eiwbelilishmcnt of the spacious gallery, the work of the young ladies of the church. The pillars down each aisle were also artistically entwined with hwrvest tributes. The moriing service was conducted by the Kqv. J. N. Buttle, the nowly-tappointed President of tho Methodist Conference, who preached an eloquent sermon on " God's Thoughts of Peace." TWere was a large con|jra|g(a!tion, which was, however, surpassed in tho ■evening, when the sacred bui'i'ding was crowd-
cd. The Kev. Mr Buttle conducted the service, and preached a, sermon on God's bounty and man's ingenuity in preparing' the harvest, from which he proceeded to draw some j inspiring spirdtarol lessons. The choir werq ini lull force morning and evening l , rendering the anthems "Ye Shall Dwell in the i Land" (in which the solos were g|iven by Hiss Black, soprano,: ami Sijr Gray, bass), and "What Are These ?'■ The hymns were specially selected, and appropriate to the ' glad season, and lieing well known j to the congregation were sung withparticular heartiness. ; Mr White,) presided at the organ, and Mr N. Okey conductor the choir. The young people were not ovw•Jooked, and; in the afternoon a s]>eciul floral service'was held and an Wddress waa given by the He v. .1. H. Simmonds, o$ Auckland. The colleetiionsi were in »id of the circuit funds, as fhe circuit is now under greater! obligations by reason of the appointment of a second minister, the Kev., Williams.
