TIELING ABANDONED.
AVIIJ) EXCESSES. LOO'ITXC TIIE CITY. (Received March 17, 9.1U p.m.) LONDON, March 17. The Russians li.ive apparently abandoned Tiding without serious resistance. After burning a station and other Russian buildings they are retreating to lvatiynn, 25 miles north. It is believed in St. Petersburg that a large pad of General l i'irovitch's force is 'still eastwards, being rigorously pursued. Also it is stated that the Japanese were ;i Vrehjy north of General Kuropatkin when the Russian retreat from Mukden began. The Cossacks indulged in the* wildest success and looted the city, murdering several Europeans and living numerous fouiltiings. Order was only restored \\h n the Japanese tcrfcd. The Times' St. Petersburg correspondent states that General Kuropatkin reached Kaiyuen on Wednesday, Sassirlitch's and ZurabicfT's corps acting as rearguard, and
corps acting US reurguaru, Ulivj Mistchenko's protecting the rig-lit. It is not expected that the army nil! make a stand until far north. It is reported that the Jnuanese cut the railway north of Changhifu, wWicli is north of Kaiyuen. It is stated the Russians .sustained a. severe reyere reverse at Tiding, utamiorung remaining' stores and artillery. It is believed in St'. Petersburg that! a large part of the retreaters wKI proceed via Kirin to Vladivostok. the rest going to Harbin to guard the railway.
