One witness said a man could make a thousand pounds out of a thousand ewes on Montere and Mntakanui : 20(10 acres would graze a thousand sheep. The superintendent of the Itlackstonc Hill run said he did not know of land on the runs referred to capable of carrying the nuniluT of sheep iiK'iuioned by last witness. Mr Hall said he had lieen sheep-breed iiifr for a lunnber of years, but had not learned the secret of -making XI per head from ewes. All the' witnesses favoured the freehold : one said he was satisfied with his lease ill perpetuity .1 ni( would like the option of Hie freehold.
