IN FULL RETREAT.
IN -ALMOST OPEN REVOLT. DISCONCERTING RAPIDITY OF JAPANESE ADVANCE. A GREAT JAPANESE VICTORY. (Received March 9, 9.-19 p.m.) LONDON, March 9. The Russians have evacuated the whole line oil the Shaho, firing quantities of supplies, ami are in full retreat northward. The Japanese infantry arc pressing them closely. Noteworthy engagements occurred south-west of Mukden. The Japanese, with 200 guns and lifty thousand men, renewed the attacks every | two hours. Generals Oku and N<>gi made the swiftest advance of the campaign, '■■ for, finding the enemy demoralised, they did not allow them time to | rally. Strong lines were defended half-heartedly, and many have aban- j doned without a show of resistance. | The Russian right is disorganised, and there are indications that many ' soldiers are almost in open revolt. One army corps opposed to General Nogi did not attempt to stop his advance. I Tre confusion and heat of the Rus-' sian retirement is evidence of the Japanese rapid rushes, put them in constant touch with the ene-I my, and disconcerted the plans of retreat. ' The victory is greater than the casualties suggest, as the morale of the Russians is shattered. Senator John, V.S.A. Foreign Sccf retary, learns from Tokio of a great I Japanese victory before Mukden. The casualties on both sides are bioavy. 1 ; ) I , i • - > -
