THE STANDARD INSURANCE COMPANY.
THE COMPETITION IN RMES (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 6. At the meeting of the Standard Insurance Company, the Chairman said the competition of the State Department involved a serious reduction in rates, which were now probably below paying rates. He had no doubt the Standard Company would be able to hold its own, and its business would not be confined to New Zealand nor to fire business. However, shareholders who looked for dividends must co-operate with the directors; 5n ensuring a large* measure of support for their own company. Thte report was adopted. Messrs D. Hayncs and M. Joel, retiring directors, were re-elected. In acknowledging a vote of thanks to the directors and staff, the Hon. TV,;,iterguß, referring to the opposition of the State Fire Insurance Department, said the aim of a certain section of legislators appeared to be that where ever they found an individual doing any good for himself, and consequently for the colony, it was about t'ime that the individual should be Knocked on the head. An extraordinary meeting was held to alter memorandum of association to enable the company to carry on the business of accident insurance.
