THENTHAM HANGE, March 6. ihc weather at Trenthnm to-day was such as would have rejoiced the Jwart of a drought-stricken farmer. 1-or the greater part of the day rain fell in torrents, and the men were saturated and uncomfortable during of the Canterbury match, which was the only business attempted. Shooting ceased at 11.80 a.m. The 1100 yards range had bevn taken on Haturduy afternoon, and shooting started to-day at the 200 yard* with a moderate wind und bad light. Por most of the tlmo shortly after starting a drilling ra| D aet jjT and by the time the range ih Itaished the men were soaked. Thro* possibles were made at this range viz., by W. Ilallingcr (I elime), Bcrgoanl Skelley (Wellington), and Carry (Paten). Eighteen competitor* registered thirty.fours. At the next range. 500 yards, rain came down in torrents, accompanied by violent gusts of wind. The scoring card* were almost pulped, and it was iroj possible for notes to be taken of the progress of the shooting at it proceeded. The black-boards for scoring were obliterated, and marksmen and officers laboured under great difficulties*, but the range having been started, it was neccssajy to complete tiring, and the men bad to grin and boar the position. Colonel Collins took his share of the discomfort and did not leave the range until the shooting was finished. Like the others, he was soaked to the skin. There were no possibles registered at 500 yards, as might'be supposed under the conditions, thirty-fours being the highest range score. The top scorers were Milroy (Nelson), T. Jack (Christchurch), Nelson (Woodville). and 0. W. Vennoll (Te Wharau). The match was won by oUlandors with 08, King (Opaki) being runner-up with 97 ; Dotnigen (Gore) 96.
