i The monthly meeting of the liar- I ret iioad Hoard was held on Friday at tho office of the secretary (Mr I*. C. Morton). There were present : Messrs A. George (Chairman), Stan- | ley Shaw, and R. A. (iilchrfsil. '■ A letter was received from the Hor- ' oug-h Council, asking whether the Board cou'.d see its way to appoint the borough inspector (Mr Kendall; as honorary inspector lo report up- . on and to deal with all casw; of in- j icclions diseases in Hie portions of the district adjacent to the borough.-, The Council pointed o»t that it would be a great advantage both to the Hoard and Council to have an inspector on the spot who could give his immediate attention to such cases. The Chairman was against identifying the Hoard with the horouirli ■ in this direction, hut as it was pointed out that the inspector would be , subservient lo the Hoard 1 , the Council's suggestion was approved by the remaining two members. A loiter was received from !he Colonial Treasurer's Department intimalimr that the Government had approved of the app.ica'lon for a loan of £.1500 for the extension of Devon Road. 'J'he loan would be paid to the Hoard in three annual instalments of £iOO.; would bear interest at the rate of 4 percent., and be repayable in 41 years. ! Tho Chairman reported that the owners or occupiers interested had , signed an agreement consenting to a ; special rate of one penny in the £ , for the payment of interest and sinking fund. . i Tho Government's offer was accepted, and it was deeided to Cake steps to advocate the loan. Tho Borough Council wrote that their waterworks scheme was now nearing completion, and as no 1 doubt many of the residents of the i Board's district would wish to have ' their properties connected with the > mains, the Council suggested that in s order to obviate the necessity of 1 frequenit application to the Hoard n ; generail, consent should be given to the Council to make any connection ' that might be applied for. The ! Council undertook to immediately ; make good any damage that might | be done to roads in carrying out ■ such work. ! The required consent was forma 1t ly given. Mr Gilchrist and the Chairman ; were empowered to notify the con- " tractor for the metalling repairs on ' Hurton's Hill, at the south end of Barrett Road, to have the work pro- [ ceoded with at once. : On Mr Shaw's representations it i was agreed to improve the loose i metalling in the vicinity of Rossi ter t Hill by having a" quantity of binding 1 material put on it. i The llonnd resolved that notice be ; given to owners of land on each ' side of Devon line, from Kelt Road , to Veale's estate, to widen the road. » I Accounts were passed.
