The Abattoir Question.
TERMS OF PROPOSED AGREEMENT. In order to come to a settlement on the vexed abattoir question a conference was held at tho Town Hall yesterday between the committee appointed by the Itorough Council and the representatives of the local butchers, Mr Gilruth, Chief Veterinary officer for the Agricultural Department being in attendance by invitation. lhe May(Mr It. Cock) presided, and there were also present : Crs. Cliff, Collin and Medley (abattoir 1 committee), and Messrs Sole 11 W 1 ilixon, and G, lliddell (representing 1 Ine local butchers), j The subject was discussed in committee for a considerable time, and ! subject to confirmation al the next I liorough Council meeting the following draft agreement w'as drawn up and coincided in by all jinrties 1. That as previously arranged no charge bo made by the council for the water supplied to the abattoir, the cost of laying the water mains to the abattoir building*? having t lji>en paid out of the abattoir loan. ' 2. That as a set-oil' for the council utilising a portion of the abattoir reserve for Iheir crushing plant, etp., and until the present deliciency is liquidated, a royalty of sixpence per cubic yard be credited to the Abattoir working account 011 all stone taken from the reserve. ?l. That in ail future contracts for metal the cotmt'il l>e recommended to 1 insert a condition that all boulders 1 be obtained from the abattoir site | at the royalty men Honed in the pre-I vious paragraph. 4-. 'H l '!f tho abattoir manairer report whether his men can do all the odd jobs required ut the reserve and on the road leading to the abattoir.
