Wilson said the Council should ' treat a generous offer in a generous manner. Much as he regretted its necessity, he would move that Mr Newman bo informed that the Council is' not in a position to accept the offer, The committee had done all it could, and the dilatorinoss of the Government was lo Wuiue if the Council lost the opportunity. Cr. Ahier said the commit toe should have laid before the Council the exact position of affairs. Cr. Urooking replied to this, Cr. Medley seconded. Cr. Clin' gave voice to the same opinion as Cr. Ahier. Cr. Urooking said the Council had taken the matter out of the committee's hands. The amendment was carried. Cr. Ahier moved as a further l amendment that Mr Newman be asked tp jeave the offer open for another mp,nth. Hp should bp madjj to understnnjl that, the Council was ( anxious to acquire tlio land. Cr. Cliff seconded. Cr. Wood expressed regret if the site were lost to the. Council. ( The amendment was carried. The report was adopted.
