INFRINGEMENTS IN THE KINO COUNTRY. (Per Prow Association.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 25. Thirteen prosecution* have just been concluded by the Crown, under the new Licensing Act. again* persons dealing j„ liquor within the prohibited area of the King Country. The charges -were, heard at To Avi. mutu on Tuesday last, before Mr W. H. Northcroft, 8.M., Mr 8. Mays representing the Crown. | c. L. Innis, of Hamilton, brewer. Mr McDlarmid ,for the defence In this case, contended that the ordinary bear duty, stamp was compliance with the Aet, : but this was overruled by the Magi*. jtrate. Frederick Plier was convicted fined £5 ami cowta for taking from To Awfcmutu to To Kulti a port. manteau containing Hqtior, without the portmanteau bearing a. label to that effect on the outside. A. Walsh was convicted and fined £3 Mid £7 Os and 8d costs, for taking a hamper containing eight dozen bottles of Ibecr lrorn Mangapuhi to Tlroa wßh|out a similar label on the outside of rthe hamper. John Pcrcival Laurie | was fined £8 and costs for sending .three barrels of beer to Taumarumii jwithout labels, and on a charge of sending liquor U Taumarumii,which he hud reasonable grounds to suspect was intended to be sold within the prob||itod area, he was a:so fined £5 and costs. At the termination of the cases the Magistrate warned all persons concerned in the liquor traffic against tho use of I consignment notes containing fictitious names, and against dealing with reputed sly grog sellers.
