FIRES AT ASHBURTON.

(Per Press Association.) ASHIIURTON, Fob. 2«. Shortly after eleven o'clock on Saturday evening a seven-rooinod house owned and occupied by Stephen Potter was totally destroyed by fire, which was caused through the explosion of ai kerosene lamp. Only a small quantity of furniture was saved. The house and furnituro were insured for £7OO with tho North British Company. About 3 p.m. on Sunday a house occupied by Constable Tull was discovered (o be on fire, but the prompt arrival of the brigade saved it. Tho ' furniture was damaged by water, I but was insured in the Manchester ' oflice. The house was insured for I £l5O in the North" British.
