Our Letter Box.

(Wc arc not responsible for opinion: expressed by correspondents.) "SPIHITUAUSM." (To the Editor.) Sir,—ln again replying to "Investigator," who still attempts to '.'Prove in reason, and reasons despite, •'■' That right is wrongs and black is white," 1 doubt if ho had read Professor Crooko's works, '•Researches in the Phenomena of Spirituajjsim" : (1) "Spiritualism Viewed by the Light of Modern Science," aud "Experimental Investigation on Psychic Force," wi'th 16 illustrations" and (diagrams, proving beyond all doubt the reality of the spiritualistic theory ; and (2) 'Psychic Force and Modern Spiritualism," u reply to ihe Quarterly Ueview and other critics, to which is added correspondence upon Dr. Carpenter's asserted refutation of the author's experimental proof of the spiritual world, »tc. ; (3) ''Notes of an Inquiry into the Phenomena called Spiritual during the years 1870-73;." To which are added three letters entitled, "Miss Florence , Cook's Mediumship," "Spirit Forms," and the last of "Katie King," the photographing of "Katie King" by the aid of electric light. If these do not convince " Investigator " of Professor Crooko's avowed belief in spiritualism, well, then, I pity his lack of intellect.; In conclusion, in direct reply to "Investigator, I must say that "the lie is loose;" its talons are sharper than an eagle's ; its jaws uro stronger than a tiger's ; its fangs are more poisonous than the cobra'sl; its folds are tigihter than the boa's ; its breath is as blasting as the simoom; loving the darkness of night; ''nom de plume," yet active by day ; sleepless as Argus; strong as Hercules. The lie is large, yet no one exclaims. No door is barred; no parly of excited men sally out to surround and destrov it. Should they do so, not n glimpse of its tawny form would they see. No steady hand and trainMi eye could secure a deadly aim, for it is as intangible as the wind, although terrible as the hurricane. The lie is loose, and no ono :an destroy it. So open the doors wide ; go out into the street freely. The risk is gloat', but a'il tak*o their siance. We have become indifferent ind stolid hy familiarity. Wu hear it a youth destroyed yesteixiav, of ihe character of a woman blasted tolay, an author's reputation assailed >y ignorant critics indiscriminatelv rte may ourselves be too victims t'onorrow, yot we raise no warning :ry, and should wc, our voice would mly be answered by its echo. A ulsehood consists in a purposed miseading, in downright deception, in a selfishly; planned exaggeration, or in i deliberate intent to belittle and inure a sister or brother. Words arc lot necessary to give wing to a lie. V nod of the head may do it, the neer of silence, the scowl of a uuscle, or the scornful wag of the lead may tlo it. The say-so of ceruin persons is no proof of truth. .'hey paint and give voice to their iwn perverted imaginations. They re the frothy, floating scum of solely. Beware of their nom de lume and smiles. Howovcr, it is ;uite useless to chase a lie ; it will HinuUely die of its own rotteness.—l am, etc., SPIMTUALIST.
