NAPIER CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
(l'er Press Association.) A'API ISR. Ft. j. 22. The Napier Caledonian Sports were held in the Recreation Ground today. The attendance numbered'about 500. The Scottish athletes, Messrs Cameron and Johnston, at present touring the colony, wei'o present, and gave an exhibi lion, of hammer and weight throwing, tossing the caber, wrestling, etc. In the running events very fast times were recorded. L. McLathlan, from scratch, won the 440 yards handicap in 48 3-3scc, an Australasian record for the distance, and within 3-10scc of the world's professional record, made by 11. Duttery in England. F. H. Sonicis won the 120 yards handicap in 11 l-">scc, and Tamihana the 220 yards handicap in 21 2-Ssec. L. Ward won the mile in 4min 35scc, and W. Farreliy the hall-mile in 2 iiiin 3 4-ssec. In the cycling events J. Harrnan won the one nui'e in 2min l<j l-ssec, and C, Cattanach won the two miles handicap in 4min 38sec. D. Catmeron won moot of the piping events, and H. Smith and liilgour were the most successful dancers.
