Harbour Foreman's Report.
—Accident ut the Derrick.— The Harbour Hoard's foreman reported at yesterday's meeting that, while testing the ucvv crane on 4th inst., James Lynch was injured and | laid up for a fortnight, and the pile J derrick smashed through the crune over-running. A new derrick would be finished this week. I —Wharf Extension.— The wharf extension work during the month comprised driving four I piles and laying down bearing strinI gers and deek planks for u length of .33 feet, thus completing a length of 12!) feet from the starting point. Wharf Damaged by Takapunu. On the 2(ith .lunnary three piles werv broken by the Takapuna. These had been drawn and the broken | beams cleared away, but the new piles had not been driven, owing to the accident to the derrick. —Breakwater .Extension.—
Thirteen concrete blocks had been : made during the month, making u| total of 55 to date, and 300 tons of stone had been dropped over the end of the breakwater—the stones going well out, and the hbekwash of the sea carrying them still further out, —4O Ton Crane.— Owing to the unsatisfactory working of this crune while lifting heavyblocks, the foreman stated he had found it necessary to put in new cylinders and four cog wheels. Hy the chairman's authority he -had sent the. old cylinders to Duncdin to have a new pair made, and had employed Messrs Sparrows' litter for a fortnight overhauling the other parts. —The Dredge.— A new runner and shaft and a new ball and socket joint had been fitted on the dredge. Hepnirs to suction pipe had been effected, and several (duplicate parts ordered from Messrs I Sparrow. | The chairman's action was conI tinned.
