T)r. Itell, the new Government Geologist, arrived at Auckland last veiling by tho mail steamer. Lady Onslow, Lady Dorothy Onslow, and the Hon Huia Onslow left Auckland by the Manuka last night tor Sydney.
The many friends of Mr G. Ramson will lie sorry to learn that he is laid up with rheumatics, and will be confined to the house for a while. Mr T. E. Seddon, second son of the Premier, has been [advised bycable, says a Wellington telegram, that he lias passed the first section of his L.L.Ii. examination.
Mr John Holmes, the well known produce merchant, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail Urain last night. He will lie staying here a day or two to arrange business matters. l|t is whispered that Mr Holmes has been unanimously selected to act as Commissioner for the International!, Exhibition at Christchurch next year, and if that is so ail we can say is that we think the promoters have picked the best and most capable man in the colony for the position.
