SHRIJBB WINS THE MILE AND A HALF. (Received Feb. 19, 5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Feb. 19. Shrubb and Duffey made their first public appearance in Australia yesterday. The 100 yards Championship of Victoria was won by Mueller, of Victoria, who defeated Duffey ! by six inches in 10 3-10 sec. In the mile and | a half Invitation Scratch Shrubb was successful, beating Blake by 40 yards in Turin 3 l-10soe. Shrubb covered a mile in 4-min 29 4-ssec. The Two Miles Handicap was won by Riddle, with 280 yards start, in 9min 23 2-sscc, Shrubb retiring at the mile and a hall*. The start for the 100 Yards was perfect, though Duffey was not so ' fast off the uiarkT as had been expected. At 50 yards'he must have been, .a yard in leant. Here. Mueller was seen to' be gaining, and Duffey dying away. At the tape Mueller forced himself to a finish. As Duffey's record stands at 9 3-ssec. it is obvious that he has not yet struck form. His r|mccting with Mueller next Saturday should prove particularly interesting. Shrubh has picked, up form in a remarkable manner, for he covered half a mile in 2min Oscc.
