Our Letter Box.

(We are not responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.) SEPTIC TANKS. (To the Editor.) Sir,—l was pleased to read Mr C. E. Baker's letter re the above in your Saturday's issue. 1 judge, however, that the tanks described byMr P.aker are such as would be used for the drainage of cities, where, no doubt, the supply is- required to be regulated to the capacity of the tanks. The one, however, to which 1 refer in my letter nets" automatically, and, apparently, so long as the outlet (which is at tho top of one end of the tank) and the ellluont theivfrom ni*e exposed to the atmosphere, the lank will continue to emit an odourless, colourless liquid. 1 may here mention that the sense of my last letter on tlvis subject would be lost (except to those sullicieii'tly versed in ihe subject to see that K was a palpable mistake), inasmuch that by the inadvertent insertion of the little word " not " I was made to say that I found on my inspection of the tank that tho effluent was " not " an odourless, colourless liquid, and I was quite satislied. Had such been the case I certainly would not have been satislied. T hope, Mr Editor, thai this correspondence may lead to discussion of a subject which, on the face of it, needs " ventilation."—l am, etc., K.-WASTNEY.
