NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY Co. Ltd. WEEKLY MARKET REPORT. AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. Horses have been in steady demand, those of a good stamp being insufficient for the requirements. Fully an average number was entered for disposal by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday. Competition was fairly keen. We quote —Heavy drau-ghtiA from £26 to £4O ss); medium do., £l9 to £32 ; harness, £lO 10s to £2l us; hacks). £8 10s to £l9. Cattle. At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday dairy and stole cattle were yarded in larger numbers than usual. Dairy cows sold from £4 5s to £7 5s ; empty caws £2 8s to £3 12s (id ; Wives £1 Is to £2 3s. lleef was yarded in averaga numbers and showed an improvement on last week's prices. Ox beef sold up to 23s per 1001b ; cow, 16s to 19s. Steers sold from £7 to £lO 17s (id: lows, £3 15s to £6 15s. Sheep.—The Newmaiket Yards were well filled on Tuesday, and sheep of all descriptions sold at improve.! rate;. We quote.—Fat wethers, trim! 14s 3d to £1 to 19s 9d. Fat lambs of which there was a full supply, sold from 9s 6d to 1.55. ; The advertised store fheep met a ready sale. Ewes sold from 10s fid to 14s 9d ; Jambs, 8s to 8s fid. l'igs, yarded in average numbers, sold from for porkers 19s fid to £2 3s ; weaners, 6s 6d to lis 9d. At Papakura on Wednesday there was a very large muster, more than tW ice the number that were advertised coming forward. Prices ruled lower than the previous month. We quote :—Grown £(5 17s Gd ; two to three-year-old do. £3 2s fid to £5 ; dairy cows, £4 10s to £9 15.<J;| empty do., £2 to £3 (is Calves, £1 Is to £2 9s. lleef at Newmarket rates. We submitted a large catalogue of hides, skins and tallow on Tuesday, all lines being sold at late rates. Cows hides.—Short supply, and sell readily at +Jd per lt>. Wool, in bags and dumps ; Merino, 9d to 9Jd ; crossbred, 7d to 8J : pieces, 4Jd to s®d ; '.ocks, 3Jd to 4Jd ; lambs, 6d fo 75d. Maizo. —Market bare. Two hundred sacks arrived last week and found ready sale at 2s lOd on wharf. Merchants are offering a penny more for next shipment. Oats-. Stocks are light and market firm at 2si 2d for I! grade, ex store. Potatoes.—ln fuller supply, nice for sound samples has eased £2 petton, and are now- quoted at £9 to '£9 ss. Chaff.—Prime old Southern, in small compass and held firmly for £6 per ton ex store. Local is arriving in more or less* moist condition. Sales have been made from £3 15s Ito £4 ss, with prospects or further decline. Butter.—Not quite fo plentiful ; demand good for 'best quality separator at 7Jd to BJd ; poor and milling lines, 6Jd to 7d. Chee.'fc.—Slow of sole. Factorvm medium, iid ; loaf, 5d ; farmers' 3Jd to 4d.
