The Old People's Home.

Unfurling Two Flags.

At the invitation of IMr Tisch, Chairman of the Hospital and Char, itable Aid Board, a large concourso of people assembled in front of the Old IVople's Home yesterday afternoon to witness what proved to lie a most, interesting fund ion, namely, the formal unfurling of Hie Empire flag (formerly known (Ins the I'nion Jack) »nd the New Ken In ml RnI sign.

In addressing those present, Mr Tisch said the project had originated from flie custodian, Mr Farrar, who, with the kind assistance of Mrs O'Driscoll, had secured nil that was necessary in the shniie of apparatus. The flagstaff had !>een presented by Air Edes. the stavs bv Messrs Okey and Arnold, 11. Ward and Co./ and Bellringer llrothers, while the erection of the gear had been carried out by the inmates of the home under the superintendence of Mr Tribe. He pointed out the fitness of having the ' Vnion Jack floating in front of the home where dwelt so /many veterans who had fought for their country and bore on their breasts medals lesti'yimj'ito their bravery. He cordially invited the visitors to inspect the home, and was quite contident they would find it well managed and made as comfortable as possible! for the inmates. He concluded by asking Mrs Cock to perform the ceremony of raising and unfurling the flags, which had been' presented by Mr Farrar.

. Mrs Cock then, amid cheers from all present, sent the bunting aloft, and both flags were quickly floating on the breeze.

Short and appropriate addresses were given by hie. Worship the Mayor and Mi- E. M. Smith, M.M.R., after which three cheers were given for the donors, the chairman of the board, and Mr Farrar.

Afternoon tea was handed round and gratefully appreciatod. Before leaving many of the visitors made a tour of inspection of the buildings, and expressed themselves highly pleased with the arrangements for the comfort and care of the inmates.

A pleasing! feature of the gathering was the excellent music rendered by Mr Turner's orchestra, who played with great spirit "Hule Itritannia," "Tito Flag that Hides the World," "Freedom's Flag," and other selections.

Mr Tisch is to be congratulated on the success of the function, and he well deserves the high praise which was accorded to him for his untiring; devotion to the interests and wellbeing of the inmates of the home. Fortunately his efforts are well seconded by Mr , Fuirnr, who spares no pains to make the home one of the best in the colonv.
