Mr James Lachman, for many years manager of Messrs P. 1 layman and Co.'s business in Wellington, js to retire' from that position and from the world of commerce generally, owing lp jndifferenf health. Amongst present visitors to New Plymouth are Mr E. W. Lowe, resident secretary of the Australian Mutual Provident Sopicfy, and Mr Diehard Teecej' general manager and actuary. A wire received in on Friday from Wellington announced the (iiMlh of Mrs Soulby, formerly a well-known resident oj Wanganui, who passed away at tho residence of her daughter, Mrs W. Jjlngard, at the advanced age of 90 years. The deceased lady arrived in New Z.calland in W">'2 in the ship Stag.
