STRANDING OF THE WAINUI.
CAPTAIN Ill'LL REHIUNB. (Per Press Association.) ' DUNEIIIN, Jan. 27.
At a meeting of directors of the l'nion Steam Ship Company to-day Captain Hull »a» given an opportunity of personally explaining the circumstances which led to the stranding of the IWalnul on tho Tower Hockx, liotwoen Stophen and D'l'rvillo Inlands, on tho night of the 15th inst. The directors considered that Captain Hull wan to blame in running his vessel at full when he had not been able to ♦sight land after leaving Terawhlti, but depended entirely upon an estimate of his position, with the remit he was three miles out of his reckoning when tho steamer stcuck. Under the circumstances, therefore, the directors decided that Captain Hull could not Ix l reinstated in command. In view, however, of his past services nnd good record they gave him the opportunity of remaining in the company's service in the position of chief officer. Captain Hull proferred, ; however, to resign, and baa now left the company's service.
