The second wool sale of the season was held to-day, when a total »if 9097 bales was offered, the largest quantity yet brought under the hammer nt a local sale. There was also n record attendance of foreign and local buyers, but in sympathy with the latest London advices and the fact that reserve values were verv high, bidding at lirst was slack. Matters improved, however, as the sale progressed, nnd although n number of the lots were passed in the majority of ■ these were afterwards quitted nt satisfactory prices, although on the whole prices ruled from Jd to Id less than at the December sale. There was, however, a good demand for lambs' wool, which showed n Jd rise. For much of the wool, however, the December rates were fully maintained. Quotations.—Merino (very little offering), up to '.)Jd for inferior ; halfbred, up to 10} d ; crossbred , up to 9Jd ; coarse crossbred, up to BJd ; lambs' wool, uq to !>}d ; pieces, up to 7sd ; bellies, up to "jd;. and locks up to s}d. 111RXSIDE STOCK SALES, DUNEDIN, Jan. 25. Fat shtep.—lß73 were penned, comprising very mixed aheep. A large number of ewes as well as fair to medium wethers were offered, but except for the pens of priinest wethers the demand was | much slacker than at last week's .sale. Medium wethers were back Is to Is Gd per head, while ewes of all classes were easier by Is Od |to 2s. Uest wethers 21s to 22s Gd, masum 18s 9d to 19s 9d, light 17s to 18s 3d, best ewes 18s to 9d, medium 16s 3d to 17s (kl, Uight and inferior 13s to 15s. Porkers and baconers met with a brisk demand at about the same prices ns last week.
