AGEXT-GENEUAL'S ADVICE. WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. The Industries and Commerce IV,]>nrtment has received ihe following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, 21st : The mutton market is depressed. The average price of Canterbury mutton is 4Jd, Dunedin, Wellington and Southern Meat Exporting Company's brand 4Jd. River I'Jato mutton is imoted at 33d. Australian lamb, in large supply, but of very mixed quality, is at an average price of 4Jd to'.'ijd. The market is weak. There is no alteration in the beef market. The butter market is linn, and there is good demand. The average price to-dny of choicest New Zealand is 100s per cwt (nouiinul). The wholesale market hns been cleared of all stock. ■ Danish is uuoted at 107s. The cheese market is quiet, but steady, finest Now Zealand realising 52s per cwt., and Canadian 535. Hemp.—Good fair Wellington grade on spot to-day is at JtHO per ton. Manila hemp of fair current grade is quoted at £37. There is no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market, which is strong.
